Established in 2006, The Upper Hand is a spa nestled at the foothills of Mt Helix offering transformative luxury pedicures, natural manicures and gel polish. Facials, back treatments and full body treatments and waxing.

Lisa started in the industry in 1987 as an esthetician/make up artist. In 1990 she added her Manicurist license. She and her husband Hugh moved to Chicago and neighboring Indiana. There, The Upper Hand began. After relocating home to San Diego in 2002, Lisa worked at a couple salons before realizing she wanted to create an environment she wasn’t finding. January 2006, She opened The Upper Hand Spa Salon, a full service booth rental salon in Jamul. A beautiful 15 years was spent making wonderful memories. During the difficult times of the first Covid shutdown, brought a lot of time for soul searching and reflection. The decision to follow her dreams and God opening the doors, the leap was taken to relocate the salon to La Mesa. The dream and mission is to bring you a welcoming, comfortable spa where service, kindness and empowerment is first and foremost.
